Wilbur Christensen, age 86 of Northfield, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Reflections on the Three Links campus. Wilbur Charles Christensen was born August 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, to Anker and Ruth Christensen. He was raised in Brooklyn where his parents owned and operated a bakery that specialized in Danish delicacies. Following his graduation in 1949 from Fort Hamilton High School, Wilbur enrolled at St. Olaf College. Wilbur Christensen, age 86 of Northfield, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Reflections on the Three Links campus.

Wilbur Charles Christensen was born August 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, to Anker and Ruth Christensen. He was raised in Brooklyn where his parents owned and operated a bakery that specialized in Danish delicacies. Following his graduation in 1949 from Fort Hamilton High School, Wilbur enrolled at St. Olaf College. While attending St. Olaf he was active in the Viking Chorus and as a writer for the Manitou Messenger. In 1953 he received his bachelor’s degree in History. On September, 1953, he was drafted into the US Army and served in Heidelberg, Germany. Following his honorable discharge on August 30, 1955, he attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota and later at Columbia University where he received his master’s in Education. Wilbur spent his high school teaching career in Syosset, New York. During those years he made his home in Oyster Bay. Following retirement in 1988 , he spent his time between Oyster Bay and Northfield, moving to Northfield full-time in 2012.

Wilbur was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. He was proud of his Danish heritage and loved music, especially classical music, and spent over 20 years as part of the Long Island Orchestra and Choir on Long Island. He enjoyed his years at St. Olaf College and was still known for his wonderful impression of Professor Huggenvik!

Survivors include his brother Donald.

Services will be at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16, 2017, beginning at 11 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield.
