Loretta Keilen, age 81 of Northfield, passed away at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community with her family by her side on Saturday afternoon, October 19, 2019. Loretta Ann Moravec was born October 27, 1937, in Northfield, Minnesota to John and Mary (Cecka) Moravec. She was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Dominic, attended Rosary School, and graduated from Northfield High School in 1955. Loretta Keilen, age 81 of Northfield, passed away at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community with her family by her side on Saturday afternoon, October 19, 2019.

Loretta Ann Moravec was born October 27, 1937, in Northfield, Minnesota to John and Mary (Cecka) Moravec. She was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Dominic, attended Rosary School, and graduated from Northfield High School in 1955. Following her education she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and the Northfield Hospital. On September 29, 1962, Loretta married Richard Keilen at the Church of St. Dominic. They made their home in Northfield and Loretta continued working for Northfield Hospital. After several years at home with the children she returned to the work force, spending several years at St. Dominic School and later the Dilley Unit at Northfield Hospital. Richard passed away on July 2, 2012.

Loretta was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Dominic’s. She enjoyed reading, word find puzzles, caring for her yard and all types of animals. Loretta was quiet, kind, compassionate, strong and faithful. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and she will be greatly missed.

Loretta is survived by her children, Mark (Brenda) of Northfield, Mary (David Howells) of Minnetonka, Michael (Sara) of Orono; three grandchildren, Mady, Joshua and Jacob; her sister, Donna Rezac of Northfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Mamie Schoenbauer and her brother Milton Moravec.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield. Visitation will be 4-7PM, Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home and will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to Prairie’s Edge Humane Society.

    I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Loretta was such a sweet, dear lady. I loved when she would come into the clinic, she was such a joy to talk to and always so positive, even when things weren’t looking bright for her. She dearly loved her animals. I am blessed to have known her.
