Lila Suzette Winter, age 68 of Northfield, passed away with her husband and family by her side on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul following a heart attack the Friday before. Lila was born February 14, 1949, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Richard and Marlys (Benham) Rice. She was raised in Northfield and graduated from Northfield High School in 1967. Lila Suzette Winter, age 68 of Northfield, passed away with her husband and family by her side on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul following a heart attack the Friday before.

Lila was born February 14, 1949, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Richard and Marlys (Benham) Rice. She was raised in Northfield and graduated from Northfield High School in 1967. On January 18, 1969, Lila married Robert L. Winter at the Church of St. Dominic. After marriage they made their home in Northfield until 1976 when they purchased the Sorenson farm just northwest of town. Lila had several jobs over her lifetime including Hughes & Heckler Hardware and JanAir where she served as an office manager and sales assistant. She officially retired in 2012.

Lila was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. For many years she served as the 4-H leader for the Working Huskies 4-H Club and was also a co-founder of BirthRight in Northfield. In addition to raising her five children and many of their friends, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, driving her corvette and traveling with Bob. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends at their lake home in Luck, Wisconsin. Lila was kind, caring and always willing to put others first. Her honesty and wisdom made an impact on those who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Bob; her children, Rob, Shari (Bob) Erickson, Gina (Jake) Fossum, Andy (Jamie), Adam (Liz); 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Winter and Lincoln Swenson; her sisters, Cookie (Roger) Williams of Dundas, Denise O’Brien of Holly Hill, Florida, Shelly Frank of Prescott, Wisconsin; her brother, Ray Rice of Northfield; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister LaVonne McCorkell, and her brothers Jerry and Rick Rice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the Church of St. Dominic and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Pallbearers will be Allie Erickson, Lauren Erickson, Anne Fossum, Michael Fossum, Andrew Winter, Bobby Winter, Phillip Winter and Tori Winter. Honorary pallbearers will be Lindsey Erickson, Tyler O’Banion, Trigg Sellers, Gavin Winter, AJ Thibodeau, Lydia Vogt, Dexter Winter, Nick Winter and Tierney Winter.
