John Tussing, age 82 of Northfield, passed away with his wife and family by his side on Monday morning, November 27, 2017, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community.

John Francis Tussing was born June 10, 1935, on his grandparents’ farm in Greenvale Township, Dakota County, Minnesota, to Francis and Rose (Langer) Tussing. He was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Dominic and attended country school in Greenvale Township. After his education, he worked on the family farm before joining the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge in November 1959, John returned to the farm. He married Rose Ann Trnka on October 1, 1960, at the Church of St. Dominic and the couple made their home in Northfield. John worked with Zanmiller Sheet Metal and Jones Construction before joining Gordy Mickelsen as a carpenter, where he worked for 20 years. In 1988, he started his own business as John Tussing Construction, retiring in 2006. John was a life long member of the Church of St. Dominic and a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and was an avid gardener. John was giving, helpful, and a loving husband and father. His sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye will be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rose Ann; his children: Jim (Julie) of Apple Valley, Michael (Debora) of Shakopee, Susan of Northfield, Kevin (Kellee) of Northfield; two grandchildren: Amanda and Jackie; 8 sisters Rose Ann Palmer, Mary Barron, Dorothy Hadley, Lucille Rasinski, Phyllis (Robert) Thour, Ruth Maurer, Cecile (Loren) Chandler, Joan Miller; 3 brothers Roger (Charlyn) Moore, Eugene Moore, Arthur (Rozena) Moore; other family members; and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, his step-father Ellsworth “Ike” Moore, his brothers Francis Tussing, Richard Tussing, Tom Moore, David Moore and infant brother Peter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Interment with Military Honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be 4-7PM, Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Dominic.
