John Martner, age 63 of Northfield, passed away with his wife and family by his side on Sunday afternoon, October 15, 2017, after a stubbornly fought battle with cancer.

John S. Martner was born March 31, 1954, at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John and Grace (Sturtevant) Martner. He was raised in Eden Prairie and graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 1972. Following high school he attended vocational college and worked construction. In the early 1980’s, he moved to Lonsdale and in May of 1991, to Northfield. John married Tracy Midtvedt on June 26, 1993 in Northfield. Over the years John was employed as a machinist with CCM, Northfield Foundry (18 years), and with MRG Tool & Die in Faribault since 2010. He greatly enjoyed his time with MRG and had intended to stay with them much longer than his health allowed.

John loved his life, his wife, his house and his job! He greatly enjoyed music and his Friday night jam sessions. He was talented at fixing or making almost anything and was always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Tracy; his son Justin & grandson Aiden, his daughter Jennifer and her partner Jessica Bowman; his mother Grace; his sister Diantha Chell; his brothers Glen and Gene (Brooke); his sister-in-law Monica Martner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and brother Kent.
