Joanne Rone, age 89 of Northfield, passed away at the Northfield Hospital on Sunday evening, December 22, 2019. Joanne Gretchen (Klomps) Rone was born on June 1, 1930, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, to Albert and Minnie (Hellickson) Klomps. She grew up in Comfrey where her father was superintendent of schools. She graduated Comfrey High School in 1948 and attended Mankato State Teachers College. She taught in schools in Iowa and Minnesota. Joanne married Norman Rone and they had one son, David. Joanne Rone, age 89 of Northfield, passed away at the Northfield Hospital on Sunday evening, December 22, 2019.

Joanne Gretchen (Klomps) Rone was born on June 1, 1930, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, to Albert and Minnie (Hellickson) Klomps. She grew up in Comfrey where her father was superintendent of schools. She graduated Comfrey High School in 1948 and attended Mankato State Teachers College. She taught in schools in Iowa and Minnesota.

Joanne married Norman Rone and they had one son, David. Over the years they lived in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Menomonie, Wauwatosa and Chippewa County, Wisconsin. Joanne moved to Northfield and worked at several jobs, and also cared for her mother, aunts, and an uncle. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Hand Chime Choir. Joanne also taught piano for over 45 years. She loved music, played tuba in the high school and college bands and sang in church choirs for many years. She enjoyed playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles, fishing, and watching the Twins, Vikings and Gophers.

Survivors include her son David (Mary Jo) of Custer, South Dakota, her sisters Marjorie Jerpbak of Edina and Emily Libra of Jackson, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Allen Klomps..

A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, January 3, 2020, at Emmaus Church, 712 N. Linden Street, Northfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
