Doris Barsness, age 91 of Northfield, passed away on Saturday morning, February 25, 2017, at the Three Links Care Center.
Doris Verone Rasmussen Barsness was born on July 6, 1925, on the family farm near Hazelwood in Webster Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Anton C. and Lillian A. (Braker) Rasmussen. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hazelwood and attended District 76 county school. She married Luther A. Barsness on September 7, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Doris worked as a custodian at St. Olaf College. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She loved gardening and was known for her beautiful flowers. She loved playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family. She had a wry sense of humor.
Survivors include her children David (Kristy) of Sandstone, Dan of Boulder, Colorado, Deborah (Greg) Aikman of Boston, Massachusetts; 6 grandchildren Craig (Tiffany), Mike (Mary Kay), Steve (Pam), Nathan, Alex, Andrew; 6 great-grandchildren: Payton, Kennedy, Miah, Dana, Tori, Olivia; 3 brothers Richard, Gordon (Emelda) and Bob Rasmussen, all of Northfield; 4 sisters-in-law, Beverly Rasmussen of Maplewood, LoRene Barsness of Phoenix, Ruthie Midboe of Burnsville, Evelyn (Frank) Gates of Northfield; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther, her grandson Ben, her daughter-in-law Kathy, her sister Jeanette Lewandowski, and brothers Gerald and Roger Rasmussen.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Thursday, March 2, 2017, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Interment will be in Hazelwood Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northfield. Visitation will be 4-7PM Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral.
Memorials are preferred to Hazelwood Cemetery Association.
Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
