Marion Dragelin, age 90 of Northfield, passed away with her husband and family by her side on Thursday morning, February 2, 2017, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community.
Marion Corinne Carlson Dragelin was born August 2, 1926, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, to Carl and Alma (Pierson) Carlson. After graduating from Attleboro High School in 1944, Marion attended Gustavus Adolphus College and Boston University – graduating in 1949. She worked as a newspaper reporter and as an adult education teacher before meeting Rev. John Dragelin (through her sister Ruth). She and John were married on April 30, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Attleboro. They made their home in New Hampshire for five years before settling on Long Island for next 35 years. Marion was a dedicated pastor’s wife – singing in choir, participating in Circle and teaching Sunday School. For many years, Marion also owned and operated a travel agency. In retirement, Marion enjoyed singing with the Kildahl Park Pointe choir, reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to attend family reunions every 3-4 years.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John; 4 children: David (Christine) of Vienna, Virginia, Nancy (John) Dennis of Northfield, John (Cynthia) of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Lance (Tammy) of West Islip, New York; 9 grandchildren: Kelly, Lauren (Christopher), John, Mia, Lindsey, Alyssa, Abigail, Kyle, and Caden; 3 great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Emily and Samantha; her sister, Ruth Lund of Fremont, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Adele, Thorsten and Norma.
Interment will be at the North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.
Memorials are preferred to the Chapel Fund at the Northfield Retirement Community.
