Janet Rasmussen, age 84 of Northfield, passed away Thursday morning, January 19, 2017, at Three Links Care Center.

Janet Evelyn Cleland Rasmussen was born February 15, 1932, at home in Northfield, to Elliot and Marion (Bartlett) Cleland. She was raised in Northfield and attended Northfield Schools. On February 24, 1950, Janet married Anton Robert “Bob” Rasmussen at the Lutheran parsonage in Faribault. After marriage they made their home in Northfield. Over the years Janet worked as a waitress at several local restaurants including the Collegiate, Pipers, Off Campus, and a decade at Bill’s Pizza Palace. For 25 years she served on the custodial staff of St. Olaf College, retiring in 1995.

Janet was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Northfield Eagle’s Club. Together with Bob, she enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions, and collecting antiques. She loved her family dearly and throughout her life her loving and caring nature showed through.

Survivors include her husband of almost 67 years, Bob; 6 children: Gary and wife Darleen, Dennis and wife Karen, Dianne and husband Roger Sjulstad, Tom, Donald, Steve and companion Christine; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Barsness of Northfield, Beverly Rasmussen of Maplewood; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard, Gordon (Emelda), all of Northfield; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Legget, Florence Northrup, Doris (as a child), her brother Courtney Cleland, and her parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Monday, January 23, 2017, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Pallbearers will be Rob Rasmussen, Cindy Rasmussen Thomas, Christopher Sjulstad, Frank Beach, Nicole Rasmussen and Craig Rasmussen. Visitation will be 2-5PM Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be this Spring in Hazelwood Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Three Links Care Center.
