Rod Magsam, age 66 of Northfield, passed away at home with his family by his side on Thursday, April 11, 2019.

Rodney Dale Magsam was born April 9, 1953, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Raymond and Edna (Jenni) Magsam. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Crookston High School in 1971. Following high school he moved to St. Paul. In 1975, Rod moved to Algona, Iowa, where he managed the Pizza Hut. On July 16, 1977, Rod married Donna Lou Droel at Call State Park near Algona. In 1982, Rod & Donna moved to Northfield and opened their own ServiceMaster franchise. In 2009, they sold ServiceMaster and Rod embarked on a new business venture with Minnesota Hardwood Floor & Renewal.

Rod had a life-long passion for working on cars and enjoyed trading stories with his brothers about their adventures with muscle cars and sports cars over the years. He loved spending time at the North Shore and was always ready to get a cup of coffee and socialize. Rod had a strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with his church community. He brought a “can-do” attitude to everything he did, and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

My wife and I have known Rod for about twenty years. I don’t remember how we got to know him but what a helluva guy. Just a salt-of-the-earth kind of man. Condolences to all family. I always thought he would have made a fantastic deadpan type of actor. Though we have been away from Northfield for over a decade, Rod is remembered as one of our favorites of all time.
