Rodney Helgeson, age 91 of Northfield, passed away with his wife by his side on Sunday evening, December 2, 2018, at Three Links Care Center. Rodney Ray Helgeson was born July 10, 1927, in Faribault, Minnesota, to Erwin and Josephine (Quickstad) Helgeson. He was baptized at St. Luke’s Reformed Church and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church. Rodney was orphaned at age 12 and lived in foster homes with his brother. Rodney Helgeson, age 91 of Northfield, passed away with his wife by his side on Sunday evening, December 2, 2018, at Three Links Care Center.

Rodney Ray Helgeson was born July 10, 1927, in Faribault, Minnesota, to Erwin and Josephine (Quickstad) Helgeson. He was baptized at St. Luke’s Reformed Church and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church. Rodney was orphaned at age 12 and lived in foster homes with his brother. After his education, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1950-1953. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Faribault area. Rodney married Janice Clarine on August 26, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield and they made their home near Faribault. In 1969, they moved to their home in Bridgewater Township. Rodney worked for McQuay for 33 years, retiring in 1988. In July 2009, they moved into Northfield. Rodney was a life member of the Northfield American Legion and St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Eagles Club and the Faribault Square Dancing Club. He was a longtime volunteer for Cannon Valley Watershed Partnership. He enjoyed bird watching and being outdoors. Rodney was honest, quiet and easy going. He and Janice loved to travel and visited all 50 states along with memorable trips to Canada, Mexico, England and France.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Janice; his children, Roger (Yolanda) of Northfield, Karen (Michael) Murphy of Dennison, Kevin of Woodbury, and David (Christiana) of Montgomery, Alabama; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents and his brother Donald, who was killed in Korea.

Funeral services will be 2:00P.M., Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Mathew, Crystal, Ashley, Caleb, Andrew, Jacob, Max and Nicole.
