Patricia Ann Dudley, age 87 of Waterford Township, passed away Sunday morning, July 16, 2017, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.  Death was due to complications from heart bypass surgery.

Patricia Ann Dudley was born in 1930 to Peter and Helen (Nell) Gale in Faribault, Minnesota. Pat was the youngest of four children: Gene, Maurice, and Elizabeth (Bette). Raised in a devout Catholic family, Patty attended Immaculate Conception Elementary and Bethlehem Academy High School in Faribault. At Bethlehem Academy Patty was an honor student, cheerleader and homecoming queen. It was at BA that she met homecoming king and football star, Johnny Dudley, who would become her future husband. Upon graduation, Pat attended Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin on an art scholarship.

Patricia and Johnny married in 1952. They had 5 kids: Mike, Brian, Shawn, Dan and J.B. They passed on a strong faith and family bond to all their children. Pat was extremely proud of her 10 grandchildren.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her family was the center of her entire life. Both Patty and Johnny made countless sacrifices throughout their life to provide a better future for their children. Nothing brought Pat more joy than talking about her children and grandchildren, attending their various sport/activity functions and family gatherings.

In her early life, Pat worked as a legal secretary in Faribault. As her children grew older, Pat shared her charismatic personality while working at Pine and Prints in Cannon Falls, Lavender Inn in Faribault, and Marshall Fields/Macy’s in Burnsville. Pat had an endless amount of energy and never officially retired. For the last ten years, she loved working for her son JB at Northfield Physical Therapy.

Pat was a person of extraordinary and varied talents. She was extremely creative and artistic. Patty was an excellent painter who taught art and various craft classes for many years. As a life-long gardener, her flower beds were “magazine quality.” Patty worked countless hours tending her gardens until days before her death. She was also a lifelong learner who had mastered current computer and cell phone technology.

Patricia Ann Dudley was passionate, determined, faith-filled, hardworking, patriotic, elegant and selfless–she always put everyone’s needs before her own. She was nurturing, fiercely maternal and fun. She had a great sense of humor and loved retelling family blunders, classic tales and faux pas.

The loss of Pat to her family is immeasurable. However, the example she set in living shows us all the way to heaven.

She is preceded in death by her husband John, daughter-in-law Tammy, parents Peter and Nell, brothers Gene and Maurice, infant sister Marilyn and sister Elizabeth (Gale) Sagedal. Survivors include her children, J.B. of Northfield, Dan (Martha) of Burnsville, Shawn (Joe Arnold) of Northfield, Brian (Amber) of New Prague, Mike (fiancé Cynthia Niles) of New Prague; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her children. Visitation will be 3-7PM Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral

Such a gracious and beautiful lady. Whole family always so wonderful. Patricia will be missed by many. Take a day at a time. May your Mother’s spirit walk close to your hearts each and everyday. Remember the good times. ” Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. God bless, Don and JoAnne(Anthony) Weed

My most sincere condolences on the passing of your dear mother and grandmother. An era has ended. Patty exuded grace, elegance and charm. It is hard to understand that with Patty’s passing, the elder Gale generation has left us. I will think of Patty each time I see a beautiful garden.

It was with profound sadness when I learned that Pat Dudley had passed away! A beautiful, loving, kind and funny person, I first met her as a child thorough my friendship with her son Mike. John and Pat Dudley, and the entire Dudley Family, will always shine in my mind as a beautiful, kind, and decent family. Most heartfelt condolences!
