Margaret Louise “Peg” Ahlstrom was born November 18, 1930, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hans and Florence (Sampson) Sonnee. Peg Thompson Ahlstrom, age 88 of Northfield, passed away Thursday morning, May 30, 2019, at Brookdale Eagan Senior Living.

Margaret Louise “Peg” Ahlstrom was born November 18, 1930, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hans and Florence (Sampson) Sonnee. She graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul in 1951, and worked at Strauss Knitting Mills on St. Paul’s east side after graduation. She married Merlin Thompson on October 20, 1956, at First Covenant Church in St. Paul. After marriage they moved to a farm in Lakeville, where they raised their family. They were longtime members of Christiania Lutheran Church. Peg worked for Kids Duds Manufacturing in Farmington from 1966 until 1980. Merlin passed in September 1975.

On June 27, 1979, Peg married Melvin Ahlstrom at Christiania Lutheran Church, and moved to Northfield. She worked as a checker in the food service area at St. Olaf College from 1980 until her retirement in 1992. Melvin died in 1995. Peg moved to 1000 Cannon Valley Drive in 2006, where she enjoyed the fellowship of good neighbors.

Peg was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and belonged to the Cannon Valley Singles Group, the Red Hat Society, the Birthday Group, and for over 30 years the Thursday Breakfast Group. She enjoyed ushering and working in the kitchen at church; visiting shut-ins, and baking cookies at the NRC. Peg was a huge Twins fan, and loved roller skating, old time music and dancing.

Survivors include her children, Pamela (Richard) Thompson-Kenney of Eagan, Ann Louise (Bob) Thompson Theno of Cottage Grove, MN, Scott (Wes) Thompson of Lakeville; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas, Jim, Samantha, Tyler; great-granddaughter, Avery Theno, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands Merlin and Melvin, her son Gregory, her sister Alice Johnson, her brothers Donald Sonnee, Ray Sonnee and her parents.

Services will be 2:00P.M., Monday, June 3, 2019, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Visitation will begin at 1:00P.M., and a reception will follow. Interment will be in West Christiania Cemetery, Lakeville.
