Maggie Kreegar, age 77 of Northfield, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, May 1, 2018, at New Perspectives in Faribault after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Margaret Ann Kreegar was born October 10, 1940, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Harry and Nora (Burgess) Strachan. She was raised in Jefferson and graduated Jefferson High School in 1958. Following high school she moved to Des Moines and received her degree in Nursing at Mercy Hospital. In February 1961, Maggie married James Covey and raised their family in the Des Moines area. She was proud to earn her Masters in Nursing at Grandview College in Des Moines. In November 1992, Maggie married Ronald Kreegar. After marriage they made their home in Lake Panorama, Iowa, where Maggie enjoyed every day living near the water. She and Ron lived in to Boise, Idaho and Colorado where Maggie worked as a vocational rehabilitation nurse and as a CNA instructor for Job Corp. As Maggie’s memory diminished they moved to Northfield to be near her daughter, Catherine.

Maggie was active in the church and communities in which they lived. She enjoyed traveling, teaching, spending time in nature, playing the piano, singing in and leading choirs. She was a voracious reader and always learning. She was vivacious and playful. She was kind and gentle and full of love for those around her.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; 3 children, Christopher (Suzanne Renee) Covey of Phoenix, Timothy Covey of Des Moines, Catherine (Justin) Olson of Northfield; 3 step-children, Ronald Kreegar Jr. of Sioux City, Iowa, Michael (Carla) Kreegar of Overland Park, Kansas, Theresa (Tim) Springer of Poland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Evelyn) Strachan of Rockford, Illinois; along with many more relatives and friends. She left us far too soon. Her wisdom and humor will continue to shine on forever.

A celebration to honor Maggie will be held June 15th.

Arrangements are with Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. www.northfieldfuneral.com

I, Jack Lewis, was a classmate of Margaret Ann in elementary and high school in Jefferson, Iowa. Margaret was my favorite partner when we learned to square dance in junior high school.

Our JHS Class of 1958 had its 60th class reunion on the weekend of June 9, 2018, and we all missed Margaret.

I had been trying to locate her, because she hadn’t been to a reunion in quite a while, and I was so sorry to find her obituary.

She was missed at our reunion, and we all talked about how much we liked her. She was a great girl!

Please accept the condolences of the Jefferson High School Class of 1958.

    Sincerely,
    Jack Lewis
