John Greene was born May 28, 1927, in El Paso, Wisconsin. He spent most of his childhood in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, and the surrounding area. In July 1945, Johnny enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and following his honorable discharge in January 1947, returned to Maiden Rock, Wisconsin. While in Maiden Rock, he met the love of his life, Agnes Menard. Agnes and Johnny were married on May 6, 1948. They lived in St. Paul for 47 years where Johnny owned and operated two service stations and worked for Kath Brothers and Donovan Construction until retiring. They moved to Northfield to be closer to family.

Johnny was an avid outdoorsman – enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Yellow Lake. He had a strong faith and was a member of the Church of St. Dominic. He and Agnes also touched the lives of many through their kindness and generosity, opening their home to anyone in need. His greatest love was shown in his care for Agnes in their later years as she struggled with dementia. His unfailing love was an inspiration for those who knew them.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Roxzanne & Tom Devney; 4 grandchildren, Andy, Allison, John (Laura), Nick (Laurianne); 3 great-grandchildren, Raymond, James and Cecilia; many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes in 2017.
