Jim Leahy, age 81 of Webster, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday morning, February 25, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Jim Leahy, age 81 of Webster, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday morning, February 25, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

James Cletus Leahy was born April 12, 1936, on the family farm in Webster Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Joseph F. and Stella (McDonough) Leahy. He was raised on the family farm, attended country school, and graduated from Northfield High School in 1954. Following his education he farmed and served in the National Guard for six years. In 1956, Jim began working heavy construction in the Twin Cities and also purchased a farm in Webster Township. He married Delia Marie Schoenbauer on October 4, 1958, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. After marriage they made their home on the farm and Jim farmed and worked construction as a crane operator. He retired in 2001 and continued to actively farm until his death.

Jim was a lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood where he served many years on the cemetery board and with the annual church auction. He was a proud member of the Local 49’ers Union and was involved in DRS baseball for many years. Jim and Delia built a cabin on Lake Minnewawa near McGregor and have many wonderful memories from their time there.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Delia; 4 children: Sue of Prior Lake, Luann (Jim) Zimmer of Prior Lake, Mike (Michelle) of Jordan, Colleen (Gary) Albers of Zumbrota; 9 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jimmy and Rachel Zimmer, Kayla, Richard, Mitch and Lauryn Leahy, Brianna and Jason Albers; his brother, Joe (Julie) Leahy of Webster; 3 sisters: Inez Malecha of Northfield, Eleanore (Leonard) Shambour of New Prague, Molly (Don) Smisek of Lonsdale; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Jerry (1981), his parents and other relatives.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Church of the Annunciation in Hazelwood. Interment will be in Annunciation Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Visitation will be 4-7PM Friday, March 2, 2018, at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday one hour prior the funeral. Following the service Military Honors will be provided by the Lonsdale American Legion.
