GERTRUDE ANN (KORDEWICH) BROSZ Gert was born to Reverend Fredrick and Bertha (Beck) Kordewich in Mobridge, South Dakota on September 9, 1934, and died on December 8, 2017, at age 83. GERTRUDE ANN (KORDEWICH) BROSZ

Gert was born to Reverend Fredrick and Bertha (Beck) Kordewich in Mobridge, South Dakota on September 9, 1934, and died on December 8, 2017, at age 83. She was the youngest of five daughters. Her mother died when she was two years old leaving her father to care for five daughters, but later by her step-mother Emma. She attended grade school in Selby, South Dakota, Drake, North Dakota and graduated from high school in Scotland, South Dakota in 1952. Following graduation she attended and graduated from Swedish Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis in 1955. She practiced her nursing career for many years beginning at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and Northfield Hospital, generally working in the OB or ICU areas. After retiring from her nursing career she worked in the St. Olaf College book store retiring in 1993.
Gert was united in marriage by her father to Wilmer (Wil) Brosz on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956, in Scotland, South Dakota. Together they had three sons, Timothy, Douglas and Robert. Gert was a loyal and supportive spouse to her husband while he attended college and during his entire career. She was always an active member in her church in the various communities they lived. She taught Sunday School, was President of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Northfield, President of the WELCA and served on the Southeastern Minnesota WELCA board for a number of years and served as a delegate to the National WELCA conventions. While serving on the WELCA board she often was the featured speaker at numerous “Mother/Daughter” events as well as other occasions.

Gert, a pure German descendant, always had a positive attitude and willingness to share her Ole and Lena stories with the Scandinavian accent at many social occasions to the delight of the guests.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, her sisters and their husbands Ruth (Dana) Vail, Esther (Wallace) Gjesvold, Lois (Leslie) Balerud, Doris (Myron) Way, nephews Bruce Gjesvold, Steven Balerud and niece Jody (Balerud) Petry.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, sons Timothy (Claudia), Jupiter, FL, Douglas, Chicago, IL, and Robert (Paula), Jacksonville, FL. Three grandsons Luke, Miles, Otavio, granddaughter Anne and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00AM, Friday, December 15, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield. Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral.

“The sun is dimmer and the stars are farther away” Gert is forging a new path and with that we thank her and love her and bid her adieu, until we meet again.
