Fred Blesener, age 65 of Northfield, passed away peacefully at home, surround by his wife and family, on Friday morning, May 18, 2018, after a 3½ year battle with small cell lung cancer. Frederick Mark Blesener was born December 18, 1952, in Northfield to Frederick “Fritz” and Elizabeth “Elsie” (Sempaur) Blesener. Fred Blesener, age 65 of Northfield, passed away peacefully at home, surround by his wife and family, on Friday morning, May 18, 2018, after a 3½ year battle with small cell lung cancer.

Frederick Mark Blesener was born December 18, 1952, in Northfield to Frederick “Fritz” and Elizabeth “Elsie” (Sempaur) Blesener. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Dominic, attended St. Dominic School until 8th grade, and graduated from Northfield High School in 1971. Following high school he joined the US National Guard and worked for Wimco in Northfield. On October 28, 1972, Fred married JoAnn Marie Otte at St. John’s Lutheran Church. In 1974, they founded Blesener Roofing Company, which later became Blesener Quality Exteriors. Fred was a good businessman who built his success on quality work and good customer service.

Fred was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, the American Legion and the VFW. He always enjoyed his animals and for many years participated in dog hunting tournaments. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, golfing, bowling and softball. After retiring he became a gardener and for the past three years he found himself drag racing his custom cars. He was a hard working man who loved his wife, son and family. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, JoAnn; his son, Matthew of Northfield; his sisters, Kaye Blesener and husband Terry Masters of Portland, Oregon, Barbara Gannon of Rochester, Jan and husband Steve Bruce of Apple Valley; 2 sisters-in-law, Janet (Steve) Schwab of Dundas, Vonnie Otte (Mark Wilson) of Northfield; his brother-in-law, Lyle (Sue) Otte of Decorah, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Gerald and Helen Otte, and his brother-in-law Lee Otte.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Pallbearers will be Terry Bush, Clancy Dokmo, Nathan Otte, Paul Schultz, Andrew Schwab and Ryan Stafne. Visitation will be 3-7PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Church of St. Dominic and will continue at church on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral.

    Fred was an incredibly good man. Those are hard to come by. May you be comforted by the warm and wonderful memories you have of your time with him. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew and respected him. May he rest in peace.
