Elizabeth Trangsrud, age 82 of Northfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Elizabeth Sylvia Trangsrud was born November 3, 1936, in Badger, Minnesota, to Helmer and Anna (Anderson) Rinde. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Badger High School in 1954. Elizabeth Trangsrud, age 82 of Northfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Elizabeth Sylvia Trangsrud was born November 3, 1936, in Badger, Minnesota, to Helmer and Anna (Anderson) Rinde. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Badger High School in 1954. After high school she moved to Minneapolis and attended Minnesota Business College, working as a key punch operator. On June 24, 1961, Betty married Julian Trangsrud at Roselund Lutheran Church in Badger. After marriage they made their home in Minneapolis and Bloomington until moving to Northfield in 1965. Betty worked for several years at Town & Country Office Supply in downtown Northfield.

Betty is a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where for many years she was a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, traveling and was known as Mom T. to the many hockey teams that Julian coached. She was caring, kind and funny. Betty was truly devoted to her husband and family and loved her grandchildren so dearly. She will be missed.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Julian; her daughter, Melisa (Matt) Simonet of Richfield; her daughter-in-law, Jean Trangsrud of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Katie (James) Powers, Megan and John Trangsrud, Madeline, Lauren and Jack Simonet; her sisters, Eleanor (Duane) Nelson of St. Cloud and Helena Turner of Bloomington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Douglas on January 30, 2018, her sister Audrey Rinde, her brothers Donald, Herman and Leonard, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday April 13, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM, and a reception will follow. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield.
