A GATHERING TO CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER KAREN’S LIFE IS BEING PLANNED FOR THIS SUMMER AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED.

Elizabeth Karen Rasmussen, age 69 of Northfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2020, at the Northfield Hospital.

Karen Tarkenton Rasmussen was born July 8, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Herbert Smith Tarkenton Jr. and Marjorie (Lester) Tarkenton. She was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School in 1968. She married Frank Beach in 1970, and they lived in Virginia Beach, later divorcing. Karen met Dennis Rasmussen and in the summer of 1988 they moved to Northfield, MN and were later married on June 29, 1990, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Over the years Karen worked for various businesses in the Northfield and Lakeville area.

Karen enjoyed traditions with her husband of watching Western series and movies, going for drives into the country, and visiting historic sites. She adored her dog, Odin, and was a voracious reader. Karen was a wonderful cook who took great pleasure in the process of preparing meals as a way to share her love and offer comfort. She had a sharp tongue and quick wit, and above all, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Karen loved her family fiercely and will be truly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Dennis; her children, Jennifer (John) Budrow of Farmington, Kristin Switzer of Apple Valley, Gina (Sven) Peterson of Seattle, Frank Beach, Jr. of Northfield, Anton Rasmussen of Bentonville, Arkansas, Lauren Rasmussen of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her sister, Robin Tarkenton Dix of Charlottesville, Virginia; her father-in-law, Bob Rasmussen of Northfield; her in-laws, Gary (Darleen) Rasmussen, Dianne (Roger) Sjulstad, Tom, Don and Steve Rasmussen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Norman Tarkenton, her mother-in-law Janet Rasmussen and her parents.

A private funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Pallbearers will be Frank Beach, Alexander Goodson, Branden Harris, Anton Rasmussen, Jarrett Rasmussen and Zachary Switzer.

Memorials are preferred to Karen Rasmussen Memorial Fund
