Donna Lorraine Kallestad died at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN on January 15, 2019. Donna was born April 7, 1929, in Michigan, North Dakota, to Charles and Rhoda (Orseth) Hendrickson. She attended country school in Nelson County and graduated from Michigan High School in 1947. She earned her undergraduate degree from Mayville State Teachers College, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota. Donna Lorraine Kallestad died at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN on January 15, 2019.

Donna was born April 7, 1929, in Michigan, North Dakota, to Charles and Rhoda (Orseth) Hendrickson. She attended country school in Nelson County and graduated from Michigan High School in 1947. She earned her undergraduate degree from Mayville State Teachers College, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota. She married Lyle Kallestad on June 30, 1950, at Center Lutheran Church in rural Michigan. After their marriage, they lived and taught in Colgate, Finley, Lakota, Wahpeton and Grand Forks, ND. Donna taught grade school, English as Second Language (ESL) students, and Air Force personnel at Grand Forks Air Base. In 1997, they moved to Northfield, MN to be near family. Lyle passed away in 2013.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Leigh and Mavis of Wayzata, MN, Scott and Elaine of Boone, NC, and two grandchildren, Adam and Marie Kallestad; her sisters: Marilyn (Wayne) Reep of Bismarck, ND, Betty  Kroke of Michigan, ND, and Eleanor (Robert) Benson of Fairview, TX; sister-in-law Marian Hendrickson of McVille, ND; brother-in-law John Kallestad of Devils Lake, ND, eleven nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Vernon Hendrickson and her sister Dorothy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019, from 2-4PM at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held in Michigan, ND on 1:00PM, on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Michigan Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at Noon.

Donna’s family wishes to thank the staff at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN for their wonderful care.

    I am so sorry to read of Donna’s passing. I taught with Donna for 11 years on the Grand Forks AFB and appreciated her knowledge, her joy of teaching reading and her work with our ESL students. She was so proud of her family and their accomplishments!
