Deleon “Dean” Austin died Saturday evening, October 13, 2018, at Summit Place in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Survivors include his sons, Glen Douglas (wife Yasuko) of Lakeville and Gary Dean of Eden Prairie; and his granddaughter, Mariko Mieko Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Deleon Curtis Austin was born January 9, 1928, in Spring Grove , Minnesota, to Alvin and Gladys Austin. He was raised in Lanesboro, Minnesota, and attended Winona State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in Industrial Arts, Music and Art. Upon Graduation he took a teaching job in Tracy, Minnesota, where he built several houses for his family. In 1967, he moved his family to Northfield, where he taught industrial arts for over 30 years.
Dean was an accomplished musician and play in a “Big Band” that toured the dance halls in the Winona Area. He was an expert cabinet builder and was always proud of his former students who went on to careers that he helped foster. After retirement he moved to Phoenix where he was involved in many activities, including starting a computer club in his retirement community.

As he wished, no plans are currently made, but an informal (by invitation) gathering of family and friends will be held at a later time.

Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. www.northfieldfuneral.com
