Chuck Peterson, age 80 of Northfield, passed away with his wife by his side on Sunday evening, December 1, 2019, at Reflections on the Three Links Campus.

Charles Benjamin Peterson was born June 22, 1939, in Woden, Iowa, to Arthur and Hazel (Honken) Peterson. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school until the age of nine when his family moved to Lake Mills, Iowa. When Chuck was a junior in high school, the family moved to Manly, Iowa, where he graduated in 1958. Chuck married Sharon Carroll on October 1, 1959 and the couple began farming outside Dougherty, Iowa. Chuck was drafted into the Army in 1962 and served as a teletype operator before receiving his honorable discharge in 1964, then he resumed farming. In 1967, the family moved into Manly. In 1976, he began his career as an insurance adjuster and the family moved to Sioux Rapids, Iowa. In 1985 they moved to Northfield and Chuck began working for Westbend Mutual Insurance, from which he retired in 1998. After his retirement, Chuck and Sharon traveled a bit, and Chuck enjoyed collecting and restoring Farmall tractors. Chuck was a member of the Rice County Steam and Gas Engine Club, Cannon Valley Civil War Roundtable and past Commander of the Northfield American Legion Post #84.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sharon; his children, Cindy (Rick) Schamp of Colleyville, Texas, Timothy (Kimberly) Peterson of The Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael, Myleigh, Robert and Nathan; three step-grandchildren, Ashley (Danny) Miller, Kendal (Abel) Villarreal, Kirsten (Donovan) Beasley; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Carter, Eva and Lyra; his sister Ardis (Ron) Langfald of Lake Mills, IA, his sister-in-law Sylvia Peterson of Hanlontown, IA, his special niece Susan Carroll who traveled to care for him in his final days & many other special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Eddie Lippstock and Merle Peterson, and his parents.

A service to celebrate and remember Chuck’s life will be held at 1:30PM on Friday, December 6, 2019, at the Northfield VFW, 516 S. Division Street. Military Honors and a reception will follow. Interment will take place at 11:30AM, Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth, Iowa.

Memorials are preferred to the Rice County Gas & Steam Engine Club or Northfield Hospice.
