Betty Schuette, age 88 of Northfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 19, 2019, at the Three Links Care Center. Betty Ann Swedin Schuette was born January 31, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Carl and Olga (Urevig) Swedin. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Betty Schuette, age 88 of Northfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 19, 2019, at the Three Links Care Center.

Betty Ann Swedin Schuette was born January 31, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Carl and Olga (Urevig) Swedin. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. When Betty was 10, the family moved to St. Paul, returning to Northfield two years later. During high school she moved with her family to California, returning a year later. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Arthur M. Schuette on August 5, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Betty worked at Gambles and Montgomery Wards, and then stayed home to raise their children, Greg and Gail. After Greg and Gail left home, she returned to work – this time at McKenzie’s Gift Shop, 3M, as a custodian at St. Olaf College and later at Carleton College as a checker in the cafeteria. Art passed away on April 20, 2015.

Betty was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served for many years with the catering committee. She enjoyed entertaining guests at her home, gardening, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Greg of Lake of the Woods; her daughter, Gail Foster (Richard Tussing) of Northfield; 5 grandchildren, Tammara (Jamey) Sirek, Maegen Tabor, Chad Johnson, Nathan Schuette, Brent Petersen; 9 great-grandchildren, Cecelea and Owen Sirek, Madeline, Ella and Kate Tabor, Ethan, Julia and Kelly Johnson, Brody Schuette; her brother-in-law, Dale (Karen) Schuette of Dennison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law Larry Foster, her brother Roger Swedin and her parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM, on Monday, December 30, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northfield. Interment will be in Northfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tammara Sirek, Maegen Tabor, Chad Johnson, Nathan Schuette, Brent Petersen and Owen Sirek. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-5PM, Sunday, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home and will continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

    I am so sorry to see that Betty passed away. Just learned of this yesterday. Always loved your Mom! She and Mary Ann were great friends and always had a wonderful time. I can still hear them laughing! Sending my condolences to you all. Your Mom was definitely a Beautiful Person! Loved seeing this video!
