Avis Somers 1945-2019

Fifty one years ago this lady who I called “the bride of my youth” made a covenant with me before God, our family and friends to love and cherish til’ death parts us. Our pastor gave us a bible verse Matthew 5:6 “ Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” I try to keep my Facebook posts mostly about my art but you know what a servant and helper she has been in encouraging me with this adventure of being an artist. Thank you Avis and my dear Lord & Savior for the continual banquet set before us for these fifty one years. The gift of life, light and love. Only my closest friends know how profound life has been walking with this lady.

Avis had not felt well for quite some time, and a recent dr.’s visit revealed that she had stage 4 colon cancer that had spread rapidly throughout her entire body. Hospice was brought in and we brought her home to spend twelve precious days surrounded with all her family, her grandchildren, and closest friends. During this time she held loved ones next to her and blessed them. On August 15th we were awakened 45 minutes earlier than the scheduled time to give medication to her. I felt led to read John 14 to her “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” And at 3:15AM in the morning as we prayed my precious dear wife opened her eyes and looked at me, then breathed her last breath here on earth before meeting Jesus. Paint what He loves and walk in His light. Fred & my beautiful bride of my youth.
