Albert Swedin, age 95 of Elko, passed away at home on the farm he loved, on Sunday morning, December 22, 2019. Albert Vernon Swedin was born July 21, 1924, in Elko, Minnesota, to Peter and Anna (Jepson) Swedin. He was raised on the family farm near Eidsvold, was baptized and confirmed at the old East Christiania Church and attended country school. Albert Swedin, age 95 of Elko, passed away at home on the farm he loved, on Sunday morning, December 22, 2019.

Albert Vernon Swedin was born July 21, 1924, in Elko, Minnesota, to Peter and Anna (Jepson) Swedin. He was raised on the family farm near Eidsvold, was baptized and confirmed at the old East Christiania Church and attended country school. Following his education he continued to farm and also began working in concrete construction, first with Ed Vick Construction and later with his brother Gustav. On October 23, 1944, Albert was inducted into the US Army. He served in the Philippines during WWII and following his Honorable Discharge on November 29, 1946, returned to Minnesota.

On September 6, 1947, Albert married Shirley M Holvand in Mason City, Iowa. After marriage they made their home the Lakeville / Elko area and Albert continued in concrete construction. In the early 1950’s, Albert and Shirley moved to the family farm. He continued farming along with working several years for SS Construction. Shirley passed away in 1975. In 1993, he became the custodian for the Greenview rest area until retiring. Albert remained on the farm the rest of his life. He loved farming and anything to do with farming. He was a member of Christiania Lutheran Church and a life member of the Lakeville VFW. He was loved and he will be missed. “Howdy Neighbor!”

Survivors include his children, Gary (Delores) of Webster, Faye DuPay of Webster, Dave (Jeannie) of Lakeville, Rick (Debbie) of Lonsdale, Paul Earl of Lakeville, Kim (Steve) Wagner of Skyburg, Steven R. of Elko; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; his sister Ester Stanke of Elko; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, Jesse; his son-in-law, Joseph Dupay; his brothers, Leonard, Carl, Fred, Peter, Henry, Herbert, Gustav and Victor; his sisters, Clara Matson, Helen Ersfeld, Annette Chester; and his parents.

Funeral services will be 11AM, Friday, December 27, 2019, at Christiania Lutheran Church, 26691 Pillsbury Avenue, rural Lakeville. Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday, December 26, 2019, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield and at church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment with Military Honors will be in East Christiania Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny DuPay, Bryce Swedin, Jeff Swedin, Logan Swedin, Richard Swedin Jr., Travis Swedin, Trevor Swedin, and James Wagner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
