Patricia Forsyth, age 82 of Northfield, passed away with her family by her side on Friday afternoon, January 6, 2017, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield.
Patricia was born September 20, 1934, in Huron, South Dakota, to Earl and Ruby (Dinkins) Flanagan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1952. She then went on and received her bachelors degree in Education from Huron College in 1956. On June 14, 1956, Pat married John Howard Forsyth. She taught English and History for a few years and substitute taught in Worthington. From 1978‑1990, Pat served as the Religious Education Coordinator at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1997, Patricia and John moved to Northfield to be closer to their children and families. John passed away in 1999.
Pat was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, and a former active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington. She was a former board member of the Northfield Senior Center and was actively involved with getting the Senior Center built. Over the years Pat spent many hours as a volunteer for the Northfield Arts Guild and St. Dominic Church. She enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening, feeding the birds and loved to travel.
Survivors include her children Michele (Paul) Patnaude of Maplewood, Janelle (Brian) Stroh of Lakeville, Bruce (Nicole) of Hanover; her son‑in‑law, Paul Wise of Northfield; 10 grandchildren: Carolyn, Claire, Ryan, Thomas, Connor, Logan, Jonah, Evan, Rachel and Brady; her sister, Kay (Robert) Laposky of Phoenix; her brother, Paul (Laura) Flanagan of Huron; her sister‑in‑law, Karen Flanagan of Denver; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Kathryn Wise, her parents, and her brother Michael Flanagan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield. Visitation will be 4‑7PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral.
Memorials are preferred to Northfield Senior Center and the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield.
