Marie Faaborg Jensen Dietz was born October 24, 1921, in Dagmar, Montana. As a child she moved with her family to Tyler, Minnesota, and as a girl with them to Askov, Minnesota, where she graduated from Askov High School in 1939. On October 30, 1940, Marie married Elmer O. Dietz at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov. After marriage they remained in Askov until moving to the Minneapolis area. In 1959, they moved to Northfield and in 1972 to Lonsdale. Elmer passed away on January 24, 1997, and Marie has been a resident of the Three Links Campus since August 2010.
Marie was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield and Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Lonsdale. She was always active in church including with choir, circle, altar guild and Sunday School teacher. She loved music and was a talented piano player and artist. She enjoyed gardening, needle work, knitting and crocheting. Marie was loving, gentle, soft spoken and forgiving. Her family was the center of her life and she loved them and they loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children: Elmer of Lonsdale, James (Suzanne) of Williamstown, West Virginia, Patricia (David) Vagt of Rochester, Larry of Northfield, Thomas of Northfield, Catherine (Joel) Rein of Apple Valley, Mark (Dianne) of Thief River Falls; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law: Audrey Jensen of Rogers, Elaine Jensen of Golden Valley; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brothers Jens F. and Peter F. Jensen.
Marie passed away with her family by her side on Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2014, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, at the age of 92. The family would like to thank the staff of Three Links for the loving care and attention they gave to Marie.
Funeral services will be 10:30AM Friday, May 2, 2014 at Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Lonsdale with Rev. Howard White officiating. Interment will be in Trondhjem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elmer, James, Larry and Thomas Dietz, Joel and Jim Rein. Visitation will be at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.
