Louis Joseph Boudreau was born June 30, 1931, on the family farm in Waterford Township, Dakota County, Minnesota, to Louis R. and Grace (Garrity) Boudreau. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Dominic Catholic Church. He attended school at Castle Rock, Rosary School and graduated from Northfield High School in 1949. Following his education he farmed with his father. Louis married Mildred Nelson on September 7, 1957, at the Church of St. Dominic. After marriage they lived and farmed together on the Boudreau family farm in Waterford Township. In the early 1970’s they established Boudreau Sod Company. Mildred passed away on December 7, 2004. Even though his health was failing from Parkinson’s Disease, Louis remained on the farm until September 2009 when he moved to the Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center.
Louis was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Dominic, a many year member of the Waterford Township Board, a former member of the Eagle’s Club and Rosary School Board. He enjoyed hunting. Louis had a loving and caring nature and family was always the center of his life.
Survivors include his children: Renee and husband David Estrem of Nerstand, Kevin and wife Joan, Mark, Rochelle and husband Donnley Bultman, Brian and special friend Denise Gillen, all of Northfield; 9 grandchildren: Marcia (Lee) Cronce; Lynnette Estrem, Travis Estrem (Alyssa Ozmun), Audra (Jason) Shaleen, Sara Bultman (Tim Chlan), Christa Bultman, Lynsey Boudreau, Hannah Boudreau and Bruce Boudreau; 5 Great-grandchildren: Braden, Anna, Aaden, Collin and Lillie; his brother Robert (Deloris) of Northfield; his sister, Barbara (Daniel) Rising of Fargo; his sister-in-law, Jean Nelson of Kasson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Louis passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday morning, February 7, 2014, at the Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center, at the age of 82.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield. Casket bearers will be Lee Cronce, Travis Estrem, Jason Shaleen, Tim Chlan and Bruce Boudreau. Visitation will be 3-7PM Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Northfield Hospital LTCC & Northfield Hospice for the loving care and support they have given Louis for the past four years and in his difficult final days.
