Robert Victor Hegner was born January 12, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Frank and Rose (Valento) Hegner.  He was raised in Little Canada and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1969.  He joined the US Marine Corp in December 1969 and served in Vietnam.  Following his honorable discharge in December 1971, he returned to St. Paul and worked for Northern States Power Company.   He married Lori Ablan on September 20, 1975, at Temple Baptist Church in St. Paul.  After marriage they lived on St. Paul’s eastside, Oakdale and Lake Elmo, before moving to Northfield in 1992.  Bob owned and operated his own construction company for many years before attended college in the 90′s to become a building inspector.  He served a building official for several cities and townships over the years.  Lori passed away on April 21, 2008.  Most recently he was very much looking forward to wintering in Arizona.  Bob was generous, kind and incredibly caring.  He was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Survivors include his sons Michael (Geri) Ablan of Rosemount, Bobby Hegner of Northfield; 2 grandchildren: Kelsey and Michael; 3 brothers:  Frank (Ann) of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Gary (JoAnn) of St. Paul, Jon (Dianne) of Little Canada; his father-in-law, Rodney Ablan of St. Paul; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Bob passed away unexpectedly at home in Webster Township on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the age of 62.

Relatives and friends will gather on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, from 4-6PM, at the “Tin Cup”, 1220 Rice St., St. Paul.  Please bring photos.  Interment with Military Honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a future date.

    I knew Bob from the time we both worked at city hall. He was a very caring and funny man. I remember how proud he was of his son Bobby and his Elvis impersonations. My sincere sympathy to your family.

    OMG…You will be missed by all in Sciota Township. Bob will be remembered by me as the best Inspector. He not only was enduring, but had a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. RIP Bob.
