Thomas Patrick Dormady was born June 5, 1949, in Huron, South Dakota, to Peter and Peg (Mahowald) Dormady. He attended St. Theresa School and graduated from Huron High School in 1967. In 1971, he received his Business Degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Following his education he moved to the Twin Cities and began working for International Dairy Queen. On November 28, 1981, Tom married Ann Brophy, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. After marriage he continued to work at IDQ and maked their home in Shawnee, Kansas. In 1984, they moved to Northfield and Tom began working with Plymold Seating in Kenyon. He remained with Plymold for the next 23 years, retiring as sales manager in 2007 when his sight began to fail.
Tom was an avid sports fan, continuing to follow the Gophers, Twins, Vikings and Northfield Raiders until his last days. Tom enjoyed golf, tennis, softball, cross country skiing, biking and, most especially, spending time at their beloved lake home on Stingy Lake. Tom He spent his last days surrounded by his family, friends and neighbors. Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor, wisdom and unending optimism.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years Ann(Brophy); his parents Peter and Peg of Huron; his brother, Bob (Tammara) of South St Paul; his sisters, Kathy Waldorf of Apple Valley, Jeanne Dormady of Redfield, South Dakota; his sister-in-law Carol Dormady of Aberdeen; his mother-in-law Gen Brophy of Minneapolis, brother-in-laws Bill Brophy of Madison, WI, Matt Brophy of St. Paul; sister-in-laws Patty Brophy of Minneapolis, Kathleen (Sal) Lopiano of Mendota Heights. In addition, he is survived by nieces and nephews, Tracy Goembel (Karen Appelbaum), Tony Goembel (Katie), Joshua Dormady (Christina), Beckie Dormady, Katie and Kelly Brophy, Vinny and Gina Lopiano and several great nieces and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry, his grandparents Peter and Adeline Dormady, Herbert and May Mahowald, and father-in-law George Brophy.
Tom died of melanoma on Friday evening, September 20, 2013 at home at the age of 64.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 24, 2013,at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield. Visitation will be 4-7PM Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral.
The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for melanoma research at Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905 or to Northfield Hospice, 2000 North Ave, Nfld, MN 55057.
