Jean Marie Lyle Williams, passed away September 20, 2013, at the age of 93. A true matriarch, in her own style of quiet strength, she played a strong role in leading and guiding her extended family and bore that task with kindness and grace. She was an adoring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Born September 15, 1920, in Newark, Ohio, to William and Mary (Herald) Lyle, raised in Mount Vernon Ohio, she started a career after secretarial school at the telephone company and married her highschool sweetheart, Dwight, on October 11, 1941, at the Gay Street Methodist-Episcopal Church. She took on the responsibilities of raising two young sons when Dwight served and was wounded in Okinawa during WWII. They added two daughters following the war and remained in Mount Vernon surrounded by their extended families until moving to Naperville, IL in 1956 where Jean built enduring friendships and supported her community through service at the EUB/Methodist Church and work at the YMCA. As empty nesters, Jean and Dwight moved to Northfield in 1974 and Jean formed new friendships that spanned the rest of her life, served as treasurer of the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary, and worked at the local jewelry store, Holmstead and Jenkins Jewelers, where she retired after 27 years at age 83.
A true friend and confidant to her neighbors, a voracious reader in her private time and an avid bridge player, she became a sought after partner in all her bridge clubs. Jean was a longtime active member of the Northfield United Methodist Church serving her community with faith and grace.
