Shiela Ann Fick Jones, age 80 of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Circle of Life Legacy Village in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Shiela was born on September 21, 1932, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Herbert and Alice (Radloff) Fick. She received her BA from St. Olaf College in Music Education with graduate study at Mankato State University, Winona State University, University of Minnesota and the College of St. Scholastica. While teaching, Shiela was an adjudicator for district level choir, solo and ensemble contests, representative on the state board of directors for the Minnesota Music Educators Association Region 1, choir director at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota, and conductor of the Spring Valley Community Choir. She was a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Minnesota Music Educators Association, National Education Association, Minnesota Education Association, and the Spring Valley Education Association. She was also named Teacher of the Year for Spring Valley in 1988.
Shiela and her husband Clifford moved to Bella Vista in 1989. In Bella Vista, they were avid golfers and active members of their church. Shiela became the church music and choir director for United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista for a number of years. Shiela continued to be a member of the church choir. In addition, she rang bells with the church bell choir and the community bell choir. She played baritone with the church orchestra. Shiela played bridge every Friday with a valued group of friends. She traveled to Minnesota often to visit family and friends. Family was very important to Shiela. Cliff preceded Shiela in death in February 2001.
She was preceded in death by parents, husbands Richard Peleaux and Cliff Jones, and sister Shirley. She is survived by son Jeff Peleaux and wife Kari of Bella Vista, AR; daughters Debbie Steinblock and husband Richard of Austin, Minnesota, Sandy Kerner and husband Joe of Maryland; 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren brother Herb Fick and wife Pat of Northfield; and sister Sharon Bushman of Gig Harbor, WA.
A celebration of Shiela’s life will be held at 11AM Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with Revs. Steve Swanson and Van Miller officiating. A lunch reception will follow. Interment will be in Meadow Ridge Cemetery, Faribault.
