Doris May Schwanke Kadrlik was born May 5, 1933, at home in Iosco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, to Royal and Loretta (Korsch) Schwanke. She was raised in southern Minnesota, the middle of 16 brothers and sisters. As a young lady she moved to South Dakota to work. On a trip home to Northfield she met her future husband, Francis J. Kadrlik. They married on October 5, 1956, in Watertown, South Dakota. After marriage they made their home in Northfield on Spring Brook Farm which Francis managed for St. Olaf College. In 1970, they moved to Faribault, returning to Northfield in 1974. Over the years, along with raising their family, Doris worked doing home health care and day care for her grandchildren and others.
Doris enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and always listening to KDHL. She was friendly, kind, gentle and loving. She enjoyed being around people, dearly loved caring for her grandchildren, and was dedicated to her husband and family.
Survivors include her husband Francis J.; 7 children: Barbara Painter of Northfield, Francis “Joe” of Faribault, Kathryn Sanchez, Loretta Boyum, Patricia Kadrlik (Dave Moiser), all of Northfield, John of Farmington, Charlie (Vickie) of Dennison; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Rosella Nusser, Jeanette Hirdler, Beverly Teske, all of Faribault; 5 brothers: Bernard Schwanke of Morristown, Howard Schwanke of Hopkins, Louis (Hazel) Schwanke of Nerstrand, David and Marlin Schwanke of Faribault; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Bauer of Owatonna; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson Christopher, her parents, her sisters Opal Mulenik and Arlene Bauer, her brothers Arlin and Raymond Schwanke, and 3 siblings in infancy.
Doris passed away with her husband and family by her side on Tuesday morning, September 10, 2013, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, at the age of 80.
Visitation will be 4-7PM Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.
