Christine Stime, at the age of 99 years and 10 months, surrounded by her loving family, died on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Northfield Retirement Community where she had lived since February, 2004. She was born to Lutheran missionary parents on April 22, 1913, in Fort Dauphin, Madagascar, one of nine children.
She and her husband, Jewell Stime, farmed near Randolph from 1939 to 1968 where they raised a family of five children, Ruth, Daniel, Lowell, Naomi and Amber. After they sold the farm they were both employed at Northfield Retirement Community for a number of years. The family grew up as members of St John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, her daughter, Naomi, in 2009, and her infant son, Philip, in 1939.
She is survived by a large family in whom she leaves a legacy of deep faith in Jesus Christ. She is remembered as a woman of prayer and selfless service.
Her surviving siblings are Jenny Swiggum, also at NRC, Solveig Bailey of Northfield and George Pederson of Valencia, CA.
Her surviving children are Ruth (David Erickson) of Red Wing, MN; Daniel (Lynette) of Modesto, CA; Lowell (Dianne) of Sammamish, WA; Amber of Palo Alto, CA. Her daughter, Naomi (Gary Blumanthal), died in January, 2009.
Her close and loving family includes 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and her great great granddaughter, Aria, with whom she appears in a beautiful five-generation picture taken only four days before her death.
The Lord will continue to bless the memory and bring fruit from the ministry of this beautiful child of His!
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community.
