Delmer William Hering was born May 12, 1918, in Waterville, Minnesota, to William and Meta (Gatzke) Hering, and was baptized on August 18, 1918 in Cordova, Minnesota. He attended country school and as a boy moved with his family to Faribault. As a young man, after his father’s death, he left school to help on the family farm and hatchery. He married Virginia Tralle, on October 15, 1940, on her family’s farm in Bridgewater Township. After marriage they farmed for a short time in Waterville before moving to their farm in Bridgewater Township. Along with running their farm, Delmer did custom work, and for over forty years was a road maintenance operator for Bridgewater Township. Virginia died on November 9, 1998. Delmer remained on the farm and even helped with the harvest this fall. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and going to early morning coffee in Dundas. He was laid back, easy going and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his son, Donald of Northfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Les Sanford of Northfield; three grandchildren: Brad Sanford and wife Jody of Castle Rock, Nicole Truce and significant other Mike Langlois of Destin, Florida, Suzy Bergquist and husband Marc of Nerstrand; 2 great-grandchildren; Andrea and Kiersten; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his son William, his great-grandson Kyler, and his brothers Cletis and Buddy, and his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield with Rev. Tim McDermott officiating. Interment will be in Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault. Casket bearers will be Henry Albers, Marc Bergquist, Judd Holmberg, Tim Little, Brad Sanford and Richard Tussing. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior the funeral.
Delmer passed unexpectedly on away Friday afternoon, November 23, 2012, at his home in Bridgewater Township, at the age of 94.
