Mary Ann Brodina Truax was born March 29, 1931, on the family farm at Union Lake (Webster Township), Rice County, Minnesota, to Wencl and Marie (Cervenka) Brodina.  She was baptized April 1, 1931, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale and attended country school. At age 13, she moved with her family to Northfield.  She was confirmed at the Church of St. Dominic, graduated from Northfield High School in 1949, and attended Commercial College in Mankato.  After her education, she began working at Northfield State Bank and remained with them nine years.  She married Clayton Truax on January 13, 1951, at the Church of St. Dominic.  After marriage Clayton continued to serve in the US Navy.  Mary Ann spent some time with Clayton while living with her parents in Northfield.  In 1963, Mary Ann and Clayton purchased their farm in Northfield Township.  Mary Ann began working as a secretary at Northfield Hospital in 1968.  Clayton passed away on August 15, 1990.  Mary Ann continued working at Northfield Hospital until retiring in 1996.  She remained on the farm until moving to Northfield in 2011.

Mary Ann was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, Northfield VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.  She enjoyed reading, caring for her flowers and big lawn, dancing, listening to old time music, playing Euchre and watching baseball.  Over the years, Mary Ann’s greatest enjoyment came from the time she spent with her family and the lifelong friends she and Clayton made.  She was well read, had a sharp wit, was totally supportive and devoted to Cait and Ben, and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jan Truax of Northfield; two grandchildren: Caitlin (Michael) Garten of Winona, Benjamin Truax of Northfield; her-in-laws:  Gilbert and Helen Truax of Faribault, Donald and Marie Truax of St. Louis Park, Joseph and Judy Smith of Northfield, Barbara and Robert Groth of Northfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her special friend Walt Johnson.

To the family of Mary Ann Truax: my uncle, Alvin Pete Madson told me today about your mom’s passing. My mom, Bernice Madson Klahr and your mom were friends growing up. I met more mom quite a few times over the years and always enjoyed her. My mom passed away 7 years ago. I wanted to express my sympathy on your loss. May God give you strength in the days ahead.
