Richard Frank Reller was born August 20, 1935, in Waubun, Minnesota, to Alex and Dora (Schley) Reller. He was raised on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Waubun High School in 1953. Following his education he moved to the Twin Cities and began working for Fairway Foods in St. Paul. In August 1958, he joined the US Army. While stationed at Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, he met the love of his life, Rae Arlene Nichols. Following his honorable discharge in August 1960, he returned to St. Paul and worked for Fairway. On July 25, 1961, Richard and Arlene were married at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. After marriage, they made their home in Minneapolis until moving to Northfield in 1976, when Fairway moved their operations here. Richard retired from Fairway in 1993. Following retirement, he continued working and was employed by Larson Implement and for the past 12 years the Northfield Golf Club.
Richard was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Albany Pioneer Club. He was very talented at fixing and restoring things and loved to work on vintage Briggs & Stratton motors and the things they ran. He was kind, loyal, patient, big hearted and always willing to help anyone who asked. He enjoyed his work & hobbies and dearly loved his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Arlene; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Susie of Lakeville; his daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Mike Lindback of Rosemount; 3 step-grandchildren: Crystal, Samantha and Ian; his sister-in-law, Judy Reller of Bloomington; his brother-in-law, Ted (Ann) Nichols of Spokane, Washington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Robert and Ronald.
Richard passed away with his wife and family by his side on Friday afternoon, November 9, 2012, at Reflections on the Three Links Campus in Northfield, at the age of 77.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 1-3PM with a time of sharing at 3PM.
