Rita Elaine Anderson Brown was born January 23, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Richard E. and Lila “Mearl” (Perdue) Anderson.  She was raised on a farm near Lewis, Iowa, and graduated from Griswold Community High School in 1964.  In February 1964, she married Gary Brown.  After marriage they made their home in the Atlantic/Lewis area for many years and Rita worked at multiple occupations – eventually receiving her degree in healthcare administration.  In 1991, Rita and Gary moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where Rita worked for Good Will Industries.  In 2003, she returned to the Midwest and in 2007, moved to Northfield.

Rita was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa, and the Alpha 1 Anti-Trypsin Deficiency Support Group.  She enjoyed painting, crafts, decorating her home, garage sales, finding bargains at thrift stores, riding her motor scooter and her dog – Pewter.  She was a strong, independent woman with a kind and giving nature.  She loved her family dearly and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her children: Kimberly (Tim) Erickson of Lewis, Iowa, Kyle (Stacey) Brown of Jupiter, Florida, Kameo Brown (Will Hines) of Brighton, Colorado; 6 grandchildren: Autumn Kuhns, Caleb Erickson, Nicholas Brosam, Madison, Bailey and Logan Brown; two great-grandchildren: Nevaeh Kuhns and Parker Osterloh; her sister, Roxie Hart of Norwalk, Iowa;  special friends: Lawrence Ellsworth, Rosie Krejce and Gloria Powell, all of Northfield; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband Gary.

Rita passed away at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis with her children by her side on Sunday morning, June 3, 2012, at the age of 66.
